October 2023 Recap

A Girl & A Gun had an epic October with two major events, many chapter events, and continued growth — memberships are up +5.6% over last year! We crisscrossed the country for training and matches, bringing new opportunities for women to learn and compete. As always, we were movers and shakers in the firearms industry. Here are our highlights for October:

8th Annual Fall Fest: “My Favorite Match of the Year”

More than 80 women traveled to Missouri from 19 different states to participate in shooting clinics, stage walkthroughs, social activities, and ultimately 2 fantastic matches. The Team Pistol Challenge and Multigun Challenge took place at the beautiful Lucas Cattle Co. range with 83 female competitors tackling 14 stages over 3 days. Female Officers Acquire Skills and Community at 7th Annual ‘Back the Women in Blue’ Event

A Girl & A Gun hosted 19 female law enforcement officers for the 7th Annual ‘Back the Women in Blue’ presented by GLOCK, with ammunition sponsored by Federal Premium. The event took place October 25-27, 2023, at the Round Rock TX Public Safety Training Center. Participants were female commissioned officers, each nominated by someone in her community, from 9 states, including 11 county agencies and 9 municipalities or university departments. Read more >

156 Members from 41 Chapters Compete in Quarterly Match

In October AG & AG announced the winners of the 2023 3rd Quarter League Match. The goal of the Quarterly Match is to encourage new shooters to learn new marksmanship skills, range commands, how to run a shot timer, scoring, and ultimately to explore competitive matches outside of AG & AG. Winners of the match receive cash prizes based on the number of participants, and of course, bragging rights among the chapters. A total of 156 members from 41 chapters across the United States submitted scores. Southeast Michigan Chapter Facilitator Audree Danielson earned Top Shot this quarter. Read more >

Global News Outlets Spotlight AG & AG Baltimore Chapter

The article begins, “Clad in a pink T-shirt that reads “a girl and a gun,” firearms instructor Charneta Samms shows a group of women how to get a proper grip on a pistol.” The Baltimore Chapter was interviewed about the surge of firearms sales in recent years among women. The article featured several A Girl & A Gun members who shared their stories about gun ownership and training. Read more >

New Stage Planning Guide Builds Competition Confidence

In October, A Girl & A Gun launched a new resource to help aspiring 3gunners. The AG & AG Stage Planning Guide walks competitors through their walkthroughs! With this guide, resources are put right into competitors’ hands to create clear strategies for their 3gun match. It includes Q&As, as well as worksheets and grids for 9 unique stages. Learn more >

AG & AG Women Take on Congress

Several leaders and members of AG & AG traveled to Washington, DC, to meet with members of Congress about preserving the universal right to self-defense through the Second Amendment. AG & AG Executive Director Robyn Sandoval spoke to a crowd on the steps of the Supreme Court building and also spoke at a press conference at the House of Representatives Press Triangle. She, along with other AG & AG members representing Women for Gun Rights (formerly DC Project), met with several members of Congress, including Speaker Mike Johnson (in photo).

Here is our reach for October 2023:

  • 512 new membership packets were mailed from HQ (+5.6% over last year)
  • 340 chapter events were hosted with 1,788 attendees
  • 3 virtual events were recorded with 710 attendees
  • 11,310 users were active on our smartphone app (+5.9% over last year)
  • 3 new chapter were opened: Waukesha WI, Lauderdale FL, Mohave County AZ

Local Training and Media Highlights

Here are local news and media highlights for October 2023:

The Tallahassee FL Chapter participated in the Hearts and Hands for Horses charity Steel Challenge match. They did great! Then they gathered at Talon Range to have fun with the AG & AG pumpkin targets.

The Sierra Foothills CA Chapter hosted a Bullets & Brunch that was a smashing success! They “carved” pumpkins for Halloween, and then scattered the remains around the private range for the deer and wild turkeys to eat.

The Sheboygan County WI Chapter hosted a Pumpkin Shoot Competition. The ladies added up the points from 2 pumpkin targets to determine the winner. 1st place Helen Krenzer Howells, 2nd place Stephanie Waterman and 3rd place Beverly Welke!

The Dayton OH Chapter enjoyed a Pumpkin Shoot, we ran a Pumpkin Precision Drill, a Double Tap Pumpkin Smash Drill, a Pumpkin Patch Surprise Drill, and a Pumpkin Carving contest! All drills were completed on the AG & AG Pumpkin Target.

The Chattahoochie AL Chapter shot zombies! In addition to working on individual accuracy, the ladies partnered together with our trusty timer to improve their speed. So proud of how they work together and encourage one another. It really is more than just shooting!

The Northern CO Chapter hosted a Magpul Night! Amber Murphy presented on some of the amazing products that Magpul offers. Then the group headed to the range for scary target practice.

The Space Coast FL Chapter had a blast with their pumpkin “carving” contest in October! Well done, ladies!

The Salt Lake UT Chapter held a fun Halloween shoot. The night featured creative Halloween targets, including ghosts made out of milk jugs, ping pong ball eyes, and hanging masks.

The Centralia WA Chapter shot scary targets and “carved” pumpkin targets. They are improving on accuracy each time they shoot. Very proud of their progress!

The Flagler County FL Chapter went trick-or-treating inside the classroom, then worked their support-hand shooting live-fire drills from the Journal on the AG & AG pumpkin target!

The Nassau FL Chapter hosted a USPSA clinic to work with our chapter on holster draw, moving and shooting, and an intro to competition shooting. They also attended the Amelia Shotgun Sports Haunted Trails of Terror, where they shot at neon targets with jelly balls and a couple of neon trap targets in the dark!

The Lakewood CO Chapter had a blast shooting glow-in-the-dark, scary targets! They learned how to load, unload, use their front sight, and presentation skills to stop zombies and skeletons in low light!

The League City TX Chapter celebrated their 12-year anniversary! 47 ladies enjoyed a BIG celebration with tiaras and tutus, and lots of laughter, birthday cake, and fellowship!

The National eChapter is proud that some of its members attended 3-Gun University and Fall Fest! They challenged themselves and did things they never thought possible, all while having fun!

The Broward County Chapter members and A-Team got together and worked on strong-hand and support-hand shooting. Everyone learned some new skills and had a great time!

The San Antonio TX Chapter hosted a successful Breakfast & Bullets where members engaged in strong-hand and support-hand shooting and moving.

The Otero County NM Chapter had a great Breakfast & Bullets working on the Journal skill of support-hand only shooting. We welcomed 3 new members! First time to an AG & AG event for three of our ladies!

The Treasure Coast, West Palm Beach, and Broward County FL Chapters hosted Adam Winch of Defenders USA for Fighting Handgun Concepts for a 3-day course. Damsel Defense and Casco Companies sponsored snacks and drinks. It was hot and humid, and all 17 shooters refused to give up!

The North Austin TX Chapter participated in the Vortex Shootout! It was their first major 3-gun competition outside of A Girl & A Gun’s Fall Fest Multigun Challenge.

The Montgomery County PA Chapter had a blast shooting together at Girls Night Out at Targetmaster.

The Northwest GA Chapter had a fantastic GNO and are excited about working more from the holster to hone their defensive and competitive pistol skills!

The Delaware OH Chapter talked about safety ratings for shooting glasses and got some hands-on practice in the classroom with training aids to help with grip, site alignment, trigger press, and follow through, before heading to the range!

The Salt Lake UT Chapter held a mock USPSA Match. They learned the rules and divisions, and then they shot two mini stages, all building on the fundamentals of practical shooting. By the end of the night, they were ready to compete in a local match!

The Hot Springs AR Chapter hosted a Trap Clinic. Ladies each were able to shoot different shotguns from different positions.

The MidSouth MS Chapter held a Meet & Greet to welcome new Facilitator Tara Fritz. Several members came out for the festivities!

The Texoma TX Chapter members Kat (facilitator), Karen (A-Team), and Alice attended Tatiana Whitlock’s Advanced Pistol Class where they garnered fantastic information!

The Little Rock AR Chapter celebrated their 2nd anniversary with a fun night of playing Candy Land! Facilitator Tricia Atkins awarded the Heart of the Chapter award to Kimberly Valentine and Most Improved Shooter to Kelly Cantone.

The Dallas TX Chapter had a GNO at Mission Ridge Range & Academy in the Simulator Room! 13 ladies had 2 hours to go through several simulation scenarios – target practice (both paper and steel), 1st person interaction, games, and so much more! Lots of laughs and learning!

The San Antonio TX Chapter Hosted Lou Ann Hamblin with Louka Tactical for a 3-day marksmanship/defensive pistol training. They learned leadership and house clearing.

The Cedaredge CO Chapter hosted a CPR/Life Support/Stop the Bleed Class. 10 AG & AG members completed the 5-hour class. It was a great interactive class taught by certified instructors, Chris Singer and Janelle of Thumbody Special Inc.

The Memphis TN Chapter had 7 members travel to Hot Springs, AR to participate in the all-ladies IDPA Calamity Jane match! They had fun seeing sisters from other AG & AG chapters!

The High Desert CA Chapter hosted a fun Zombie shoot for Halloween and also a celebration of the chapter’s 6-Year Anniversary! The event was a fundraiser for their local charity, The Happy Trails Children’s Foundation. #givingback

The Central NJ Chapter hosted their Pocono Blast weekend of training and pampering. 19 ladies learned USPSA, met their GLOCK rep and tried all the models, took an Active Shooter course, learned and practiced Steve Anderson’s dry-fire drills, and took a shotgun course trying loads of shotguns!

The Henderson NV Chapter headed to PrairieFire Nevada to participate in the Mogadishu Mile run to honor veterans who served in the Battle of Mogadishu on its 30th anniversary.

The Grand Junction CO Chapter had 8 ladies sign up for the IDPA Match & BBQ in Hotchkiss, and we’re happy to report this was a first for 3 of them!

The Sierra Foothills CA Chapter leadership supported Lincoln Rifle Club’s Annual “Annie Get Your Gun,” an intro to 3-Gun event for 65 ladies of all experience levels. Karen and Esther worked in one of the pistol bays and agree it was very rewarding. The Chapter picked up some new members from the event!

The San Antonio TX Chapter hosted Lou Ann Hamblin of Louka Tactical to train 3 LEOs who could not attend AG & AG’s BTWB. Chapter sponsors and volunteers made it possible to give this training to local LEOs. Cities represented were Schertz, Leon Valley, and Refugio, TX.

The Flagler County FL Chapter had a great time with Intro to Trap at the Flagler Gun Club. We also had a member from a different AG & AG Chapter join us and meet the Flagler ladies!

The Kettle Moraine WI Chapter held their first T-Time event and are looking forward to many more!

The Greater Black Hills SD Chapter hosted an Intro to Trap clinic at Spearfish Rifle & Trap Club. One of the instructors, Alexandra, is a junior in high school and recently took 2nd place at the state championship!

Congratulations to 2 League City TX Chapter A-Team members, Wendy Dock-Youngblood and Michelle Blackmon, who earned the USCCA Concealed Carry & Home Defense Fundamentals Instructor credential!

The Space Coast FL Chapter raised $230 for The Toys for Tots Program! With the money collected they will purchase toys, games, books and other gifts for America’s less fortunate children. #givingback
