About Combatives Camp

The A Girl & A Gun Girls Getaway is a 3-day immersive experience focused on the fundamentals of combatives: practical hand-to-hand defense techniques inspired by martial arts. While these skills are often used by military and law enforcement, civilian defenders can also benefit from understanding how to stay safe in close-contact situations. This event is designed to be informative, approachable, and empowering. You’ll gain valuable knowledge and build confidence at a comfortable pace, all in a safe, supportive environment with no pressure and reasonable physical contact. Whether you’re brand new to combatives or simply curious, this getaway will give you the tools to feel more prepared and capable, without the bruises.

At Combatives Camp, we don’t just teach self-defense. We train for real life. This is where the art of combat meets the science of Scenario-Based and Variable-Based Training, giving you the tools to respond to the unexpected with clarity and control. In a safe, structured environment, you’ll work through dynamic drills that simulate real-world threats. Whether you’re facing a close-quarters encounter or standing your ground with confidence, you’ll be ready.

It’s a 3-day workshop to build strength, resilience, and the kind of readiness that transforms how you walk through the world. You’ll stand shoulder to shoulder with powerful women who share your drive to be prepared, empowered, and unstoppable. This is your time to rise.

Zero is when you are pinned against an object, wall, or the ground, so that you cannot move. Zero is the starting point where you will learn to control an opponent. It is where you will use leverage to escape while being held down by someone bigger and stronger than you. You will gain strategies that are taught hands-on with the instructors, and skills taught through mobility drills that will help you control, get up, escape, and survive a situation from the ground up.

If an attacker suddenly grabs your backpack, sling bag, purse, jacket, or hoodie, or ponytail, you could be dragged, thrown, or whipped around like a ragdoll. You’ll learn practical strategies for defending against ambushes from the front, side, and back positions with the attacker using your attire or gear against you. Unexpected encounters and ambush attacks can happen anywhere and at any time, so have the skills and mindset needed to effectively respond to such threats.

Have you ever heard, “It will just be taken from you and used against you.”? You will learn leverage-based techniques and strategies to free themselves from their assailant; while retaining control and deploying the use of their tools (handgun, knife, pepper spray, etc.) against a bigger and stronger opponent.

Meet your favorite flexible weapon: the AG & AG neck gaiter, multifunctional headwear that is everyone’s best friend! It is a secret weapon that is permitted in any public and private venue when used as a headband, scarf, ponytail holder, or bracelet. You’ll learn how it can give you the upper hand and neutralize an assailant in seconds! Take this knowledge of flexible weapons and apply this curriculum to your purse strap, belt, ruana, or garment.

Combatives Camp is an active, hands-on self-defense experience, so you should expect to move, work hard, and challenge yourself. Training includes grappling, grabs and escapes, knife-defense scenarios, flexible weapons techniques, sparring exercises, and fitness challenges designed to reinforce the skills you are learning. There will be moments when your heart is pumping, you’re out of breath, and you discover that you’re capable of more than you expected.

That does not mean you need to be an athlete to attend. Combatives Camp is designed as an approachable introduction to these concepts and techniques, with women of all experience levels, fitness levels, ages, and body types welcome. Our instructors create a supportive training environment where techniques can be adapted and intensity can be scaled while still giving you the opportunity to experience realistic physical resistance.

Because this is hands-on training, you may leave with some sore muscles and a few “battle bruises” from sparring and partner exercises. The goal is to challenge you, not injure you. You’ll work at an intensity that allows you to train safely while gaining a much better understanding of what physical self-defense actually feels like.

Come prepared to participate, sweat, learn, and have fun. You do not have to arrive strong, fast, flexible, or experienced. You simply need to be willing to get on the mat, try something new, and challenge yourself.

The $365 cost gives each attendee 3 full days of training in rotating training sessions, low instructor:student ratio, swag bag full of goodies, the option for convenient lunches on training days, camaraderie, fun, and friendship to last a lifetime!

Transportation, lodging, most meals, and bonus activities are the responsibility of the participant.

A hotel block is at Tru by Hilton Austin NW Arboretum located at 11603 Jollyville Rd, Austin, TX 78759. Our rate is $112/nt including hot breakfast, Wifi, and free parking. Call (737) 300-1473 or click here to reserve.

We understand that life happens, and sometimes unexpected situations can prevent you from attending. To ensure a positive and safe experience for everyone, participants must demonstrate the necessary skills and maintain safe, respectful behavior throughout the event.
