I first heard about Image Based Decisional Drills (IBDD) at the virtual 2020 A Girl and A Gun National Conference and purchased “The Kit” in
ton of fun! Our members came to the range between their family vacations and back-to-school activities: AG & AG chapters hosted 285 events, a 44% increase in event participation over August 2020! Our members celebrated National Shooting Sports Month with enthusiasm! Here are some of our highlights.
“Pull!” was the anthem heard around the courses as 82 competitors participated in the 2nd Annual Women’s Clays Extravaganza Presented by CZ-USA Field Sports and hosted by A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG). The NSCA registered shoot included trap, 5 stand, and two different main event courses. It took place August 27 & 28, 2021, at Powder Creek Shooting Park in Lenexa, KS.
A Girl & A Gun instructors were proud to participate in Legally Armed in Detroit’s annual shooting event that took place on Aug. 21-22 at target ranges in Taylor, southwest of Detroit. Heather Reeves and Stephanie Schafer were part of the instructor team that welcomed thousands of women interested in learning about guns and personal protection.

In May a group of AG & AG members decided that a week at National Conference was just not enough time for shooting together, and we were ready to accept another challenge from AG & AG leadership. Julianna Crowder & Robyn Sandoval are always thinking outside of the box, and Julianna put together an all-female squad at He-Man Multigun Nationals located at the NRA Whittington Center in spectacular Raton, NM. And 7 women stepped up to the plate (six whom had just finished attending Conference).
access courses of action, make a decision, and disseminate the information to the rest of your body. Visuals are very effective ways of learning in that they decrease learning time, improve comprehension, enhance retrieval, and increase retention. As human brains are not designed to be multitaskers (doing two or more things at the same time), but serial processors (doing one thing, then going on to the next thing quickly), cycling through the tools is essential in dealing with the scenarios. The more you use the tool, whichever one it is, the easier it is for your body to “automatically” deploy the tool in a real life situation.
One of the nation’s largest female firearms organizations, A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) has filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court urging justices to declare a New York state concealed carry gun law unconstitutional.
Ruger’s redesign of the iconic LCP hits it out of the ballpark. They have taken the needs of their self-defense minded consumers to advance the sights, trigger and grip, just to name a few improvements, and produced a micro compact pistol that you actually enjoy shooting, therefore practice with more. It continues to lead the market in concealability by keeping it slim, short barreled, light and sleek. On top of all the great features of this pistol, I am thrilled that it is American made by a company known for reliable, long lasting firearms. With the price point of just under $450, this is a pistol every self-defense carrier should invest in.
More than 450 women descended upon the Cameo Shooting Complex in spectacular Grand Junction, Co. These ladies represented more than 95 chapters and 36 states. Many chapters came as large groups in matching chapter shirts. Women from the E-chapter came solo and made new connections. There was a record number of first-time conference attendees and there were ladies who have attended EVERY conference since its inception.
What was so exciting to see were the mother & daughter attendees who came together to train; and I had the opportunity to chat with several of them.
At the 9th Annual A Girl & A Gun National Conference, RISE 2021, instructor Morgan Ballis of Defensive Tactics and Firearms led 48 women through exercises to test Dennis Tueller’s research on the human response time. He set out to test the ability of A Girl & A Gun members to cover 21 feet so that they could relate this information to potential threats. By understanding their own abilities and limitations, the women could determine their own minimum safe distance if faced with a hostile threat. In addition, the women would learn their ability to effectively employ a handgun from a holster while taking into account how quickly a potential threat can reasonably cover an estimated distance. This knowledge would allow them to better articulate their actions if their decisions during a self-defense encounter were ever called into question.
Preparation for the 2021 A Girl & A Gun Fall Fest is underway! Match Director Julianna Crowder and Rangemaster John Crowder spent four days at the Lucas Oil Cattle Ranch plotting out stage locations and creating courses of fire that are not only fun, but challenging the for the experienced shooter yet welcoming to those who are newer to multigun sports. Competitors will sling rifles and engage targets out to 600 yards, run through wooded paths shooting on the move, and use a few unique props and platforms that are special to the Lucas Oil Ranch that will make this match memorable — and one you don’t want to miss!
One of the most popular training topics at the 9th Annual A Girl & A Gun National Conference Presented by GLOCK was precision rifle. More than 40 women were able to participate in the training, which was led by Russell Anthon and Hank Ownbey of Defenders USA. Participants enjoyed Ruger precision rifles with Vortex optics and Hornady ammunition.
If you want to know the best handguns for women, the best way to find out is to see what women are choosing to train with and carry. Recently A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) hosted its 9th Annual National Conference. All 450 participants were required to go through a “gear check” process where their handguns, belts, holsters, and mag pouches were all reviewed and function checked. The following lists the most popular brands and models that the women brought to training.
A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG), the firearm industry’s first large-scale chapter-based women’s organization, recently hosted its 9th Annual National Conference Presented by GLOCK. The event took place at Cameo Shooting and Education Complex near Palisade, CO, from April 27 through May 2, 2021. More than 600 AG & AG members, sponsors, staff, and friends were in attendance.
Maintain a proper grip while placing your pistol in a holster within a purse or bag. If holding your pistol carelessly, the middle finger could slide inside of the trigger guard and result in a negligent discharge. By defaulting to a master grip with the trigger finger in a register position and the rest of the fingers around the grip of the pistol, you exhibit control and safety at all times.
