A Girl & A Gun (AG & AG) Women’s Shooting League hosted its 6th ‘Back the Women in Blue’ law enforcement training event presented by GLOCK from October 12-15, 2022, at the Round Rock Public Safety Training Center. The student group comprised 16 female officers from around the country, who had been nominated by citizens or colleagues in their home communities as deserving of this experience.
To control recoil it is important to have strong hands, but most people have a stronger grip with our dominant hand. Having a strong support hand will help you manage recoil and manipulate your pistol more efficiently. It’s also important to practice shooting with your support hand in case you must shoot with your non-dominant hand for either a competitive course of fire or in self-defense situation.
Part of the culture of A Girl & A Gun is empowering women and families with the ability to take control of their person safety. The Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for resources in our community for those who may face violence during the shelter-in-place mandates.
We know that things are uncertain now, and you may find yourself wanting to do something, and are being asked to do nothing and stay at home. But remember that there are always things you can do!
Dave Miller, Shotgun Manager of CZ-USA and frequent guest on Gun Dog TV, invited Julianna Crowder and me to be a part of a televised hunt. We joined the group in Greensburg, Kansas, on a cold and windy weekend. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and came away with a lot of wonderful memories and lessons learned.

Marksmen have long used shooting journals to analyze range performance and log their practice sessions. With this Shooting Journal, AG & AG offers a revolutionary program to help the female marksman organize her plans, goals, time, and training.
Over the holidays, Betsy and her husband provided cut-out Christmas tree targets for the AG & AG Tallahassee members to shoot. They poke lights through the holes and add additional decorations to add holiday cheer throughout the Big Bend Hospice facility.
AG & AG participated in the 11th Annual Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) National Family Day event held on October 20, 2018, at the at the San Antonio Police Academy in San Antonio, TX. AG & AG Executive Director Robyn Sandoval, along with members and facilitators of the AG & AG San Antonio chapters, hosted a bay dedicated to women attendees where they could shoot steel targets with a 9mm pistol and a .22 LR AR-15 style rifle.
AG & AG met its fundraising goal of $10,000 for the Jennifer Smith Memorial Fund as a part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Only 500 tickets were sold and three names were randomly drawn for three rifles donated by Stag Arms.

I was surprised at the difference in my cholesterol and blood sugar levels as well as the BMI changes. My cholesterol and blood sugar levels dropped from where they were during the same time frame in 2016. My body fat dropped 9% and my muscle density increased 5%. The only thing that changed from 2016 to 2017 was the Push-Up Challenge. The changes had to be due to weight-based strength training. The AG & AG Push-Up Challenge was a small change in the grand scheme of things, but it made a big difference to me.

This past week saw historic flooding in the southeast Texas area with Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey. The AG & AG sisterhood churned up more of a storm than Harvey – and in a good way. The AG & AG sisterhood was in full swing to help their sisters in harm’s way. Cindy Bowser, Facilitator of the Elizabethtown PA Chapter, initiated a “Bucket Brigade” to help those in need.

It is fine if you are a fan of a specific manufacture, and have a gun that you are loyal to and would rather cut off your trigger finger than ever be forced to shoot a different gun. But sometimes the gun is going to choose you and not the other way around. You are entitled to your opinion, but if it isn’t yours and you don’t have to shoot it, keep your gun-shaming comments to yourself.
While there is evidence that journaling has a positive impact on physical well-being, there are also practical applications for documenting shooting sessions. This journal thoughtfully combines ballistic data collection and professional training documentation with worksheets to log thoughts, emotions, and experiences as a woman’s empowerment and success from shooting translates into other areas of her life. The Journal refers to this hybrid experience as “Tactical Foo-Foo.” With a different monthly focus, the Shooting Journal provides dry-fire and live-fire drills along with guided discussions to inspire women to achieve shooting and personal goals.
