I asked a couple of our favorite instructors and friends to test out Liberty Ammunition’s Civil Defense and Ultra-Light 9mm +P rounds and give us the down-and-dirty on it. It’s incredibly lightweight, which makes it attractive for EDC, but how does it perform?
The most accurate way to determine the best handguns for women is to observe what women are bringing to the range. At the A Girl & A Gun National Conference CELEBRATE 2022, attendees brought 739 handguns to use for training classes ranging from concealed carry to competition. These numbers represent the best handguns preferred and used by women.
Ten AG & AG Leaders spent two days at Walther Arms HQ in Ft Smith, Arkansas, where they got a first-hand view of the design,
The Enigma by Phlster has been an almost everyday part of my life for over eleven months now. I will be honest with you, this can be an incredibly frustrating conceal carry tool. But like most good things, it takes time and patience. Here is a list of things I have learned in the months I have been using the Enigma.
Recently we were introduced to a startup firearms manufacturer, who has a premiere design is for a small frame revolver. Their identified market segment is approximately 80% women, so it is a potential partner for A Girl & A Gun. They are hoping to learn about your preferences, needs, and interests. Please take a moment to provide your feedback.
I first tried the MantisX Firearms Training System back in 2017 and very much enjoyed it, and encouraged friends to purchase one as well. So, when I had the opportunity to try the Mantis X10 Elite – Shooting Performance System, I was excited to see the changes. And after all, my friends are waiting to hear if they should upgrade.
I recommend that you read Concealed Carry Class: The ABCs of Self-Defense Tools if you carry a gun for self-defense and would like to be more informed as to the many aspects involved with doing so, whether you are just getting started or have been carrying for years, there is much to learn and consider, and this book should be part of your library to guide you on that path. This book is filled with so much content, data, and great information. It’s a book you want on your shelf to be able to pull down and read again and again, and you will always get something more out of it each time you do so.
The Mantis Laser Academy is a dry-fire laser training system, built around smart targets that support automatic detection and scoring, using the Laser Academy app and the camera on a smartphone. The app provides drills that are built to enhance shooting performance in both marksmanship and speed. It records sessions and stores them for historical reference and analysis.
By Alexandra Nikolov, Las Vegas NV Chapter I have had many clients bring in the LCP and the LCP II over the years and while
access courses of action, make a decision, and disseminate the information to the rest of your body. Visuals are very effective ways of learning in that they decrease learning time, improve comprehension, enhance retrieval, and increase retention. As human brains are not designed to be multitaskers (doing two or more things at the same time), but serial processors (doing one thing, then going on to the next thing quickly), cycling through the tools is essential in dealing with the scenarios. The more you use the tool, whichever one it is, the easier it is for your body to “automatically” deploy the tool in a real life situation.
Ruger’s redesign of the iconic LCP hits it out of the ballpark. They have taken the needs of their self-defense minded consumers to advance the sights, trigger and grip, just to name a few improvements, and produced a micro compact pistol that you actually enjoy shooting, therefore practice with more. It continues to lead the market in concealability by keeping it slim, short barreled, light and sleek. On top of all the great features of this pistol, I am thrilled that it is American made by a company known for reliable, long lasting firearms. With the price point of just under $450, this is a pistol every self-defense carrier should invest in.
One of the most popular training topics at the 9th Annual A Girl & A Gun National Conference Presented by GLOCK was precision rifle. More than 40 women were able to participate in the training, which was led by Russell Anthon and Hank Ownbey of Defenders USA. Participants enjoyed Ruger precision rifles with Vortex optics and Hornady ammunition.
If you want to know the best handguns for women, the best way to find out is to see what women are choosing to train with and carry. Recently A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) hosted its 9th Annual National Conference. All 450 participants were required to go through a “gear check” process where their handguns, belts, holsters, and mag pouches were all reviewed and function checked. The following lists the most popular brands and models that the women brought to training.
In Left of Bang, authors Patrick Van Horne and Jason A. Riley outline the principles of the US Marine Corps’ Combat Hunter program. This program gives soldiers a way to identify and communicate pre-incident indicators. Being able to do this before an attack, or left of bang (as pictured on a linear timeline) can mean life or death in combat. While the authors use the context of combat, they do provide civilian examples at times in the book. At several points I noted how observing villagers in Afghanistan isn’t much different from observing people at the local mall. The framework of this program can definitely apply in many different walks of life.
This month, the Fayetteville, NC Chapter was pleased to welcome Clif Messick from Cold War Concealment to our Breakfast and Bullets event to demonstrate his holsters and magazine pouches. Each holster is individually hand crafted for your firearm. Cold War Concealment is an American made product from a veteran owned business, made from the highest quality of USA materials
Although there are a group of vocal concealed carriers who are absolutely against purse carry, I believe this is a perfectly viable option. Most women carry purses on a daily bases and are already used to monitoring their purse constantly. By adding a gun to your purse, you must heighten your awareness of where your purse is at all times making sure your gun is not accessible to unauthorized users. Just like any other carry method, you must practice your draw. Taking these steps into consideration and purchasing a quality conceal carry purse, makes purse carry just another opportunity to protect ourselves on a daily basis.
This year SHOT Show officially commenced at the Sands Convention Center on Tuesday January 20th. But there already were events happening all over Clark County. Media day is huge and a much sought-after invite. It happens on Sunday before SHOT Show and is very exciting day. SIG SAUER held its range day at Clark County Shooting Center. Daniel Defense was out at Pro Gun LV for a VIP event. I want to tell you about some other smaller events that happen the weekend leading up to the Big Show.
When I think of writing journals, I picture a leather bound book with 50 or so blank pages and an inspirational quote scripted on the top of each page. For the life of me, I cannot force myself to sit down and pen my daily thoughts, dreams, mishaps, etc. The A Girl & A Gun (AG & AG) Shooting Journal, turns this old thinking upside down. I am utilizing the book at all my shooting events from goal setting to goalkeeping, from dry fire to live fire, and from measuring to analyzing.
By Barb Miller. This review of the new generation Remora low-profile, no-clip, IWB holster is coming strictly from a female perspective, and I’ve been as open and honest as possible in giving these holsters a fair shake. They are pretty amazing, well made, easy to use, offer comfort, and safety. The magazine holder did its job well and was small enough for me to put in my pocket. There are certainly times when these holsters will absolutely fit the bill!
By Sandy Kozero. The uses for Zuca range carts are endless: conferences, 3-gun, and shotgun field sports just to name a few. (Check out their web site for other industries they specialize in.) As the company dives further into the shooting industry, each year they come out with better ways to help us carry our equipment. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
