The Women Who Make Room for You

She may have spent ten minutes in the parking lot before walking into her first A Girl & A Gun event. She doesn’t know anyone yet, and she’s wondering whether she’ll fit in.

Then someone introduces herself and says, “Come shoot with us!”

That welcome might happen at a Girls Night Out, but it doesn’t end there. It happens at matches, at our National Conference, and at specialty events where women arrive from different chapters and leave knowing each other by name. At DRIFT Academy®, Sniper School, GLOCK Getaway, and every other event we host, women come ready to learn something new. They leave with new friends, too.

Spend a few days learning alongside someone, and you get to see the whole journey. You see the skill she’s working hard to master, the moment she gets frustrated, and the moment it finally clicks. You cheer when she takes on a challenge she wasn’t sure she could handle. Before long, her victories feel like your victories.

That’s one of my favorite things about this community. There is always someone willing to answer a question, offer encouragement, or say, “You’ve got this,” when it’s needed most. The women beside you want to see you succeed. And when you do, they’re often even more excited than you are!

Those friendships reach beyond a single event. Women who meet at a chapter gathering travel together for training. Someone who came alone to a retreat makes plans to see her new friends at Conference. Members from different states keep in touch and show up for each other long after they’ve packed their range bags and gone home.

It can change what a woman believes is possible for herself. She may join A Girl & A Gun because she wants to become more confident with a firearm. Then she tries a match, signs up for an adventure she never pictured herself taking, or discovers that she has something to teach the woman who just walked through the door.

Our members make room for each other at every step. They welcome the beginner, celebrate the experienced shooter, and make sure no one has to take on a new challenge alone. A woman may come for the training, but the people beside her are part of what makes the experience unforgettable.

That’s how a community changes lives: one invitation, one friendship, and one shared victory at a time. It’s more than shooting.® It always has been.
