TEMPLE, TX—It was a diverse group of about 65 locals who showed up to celebrate the launch of the new Temple chapter of A Girl and A Gun May 5. The meet and greet party, hosted by Hawkeye Shooting Academy, featured a Cinco de Mayo theme complete with mariachi music, snacks, a photo booth and door prizes.
Facilitator Becky Dolgener said the launch party attracted ladies of all ages and backgrounds who all had very specific reasons for seeking out the group.
“I asked every woman there why she came, and most of them want to learn more about shooting in a safe and supportive environment,” she said. “We want to meet our members where they are, and most of them have guns in the home and want to learn how to use them safely and effectively.”
Kim Martin, a founding member of the Temple chapter and co-owner of Hawkeye Shooting Academy with her husband, Brent, says offering discounts and support to the ladies of A Girl and A Gun is a way to share her passion for gun safety and personal protection. The new 10-lane indoor shooting range at 119 North 19th Street boasts classroom facilities, gunsmithing services, on-site firearms instruction, and an exclusive ladies’ shop. The Martins said they are planning for a July grand opening, and will then host A Girl and a Gun on the first Tuesday of each month for the group’s Girls’ Night Out.
Martin was the first member of the Temple chapter. “Experience has taught me that A Girl and A Gun provides the fun activities that will keep these ladies learning, coming back and bringing friends. We are excited to get started.”
A Girl and A Gun-Temple will hold its first shooting event at 6 p.m. June 2 at Temple Gun Club.
