“The Allure of the Long Gun” will allow participants to focus on rifles, including muzzle loading, small bore, bolt action, AR-15, and full autos. Shooters will learn different techniques for using these various rifles, the difference between iron sights and optics, and more. This retreat-style event will utilize many areas of the beautiful NRA Whittington Center, including the silhouette range, natural terrain, and long range out to 1400 yards.

Sharon is an NRA-certified instructor in Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun, as well as Range Safety Officer. She is also a National Bow Hunter Education Foundation (NBEF) Instructor as well as a Texas Parks and Wildlife TPWD) Hunter Education Instructor. Holding certifications with the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) and National Archery Association (NAA), Sharon has her own mobile archery instruction business serving area parks and recreation departments, private and public ranges as well as her own private clientele. She uses her certifications in her volunteer efforts through the Boy Scouts of America, Civil Air Patrol, Texas State Rifle Association, Austin Rifle Club, as well as the NRA.[/three_fourth_last][one_fourth][/one_fourth][three_fourth_last]
Joel Hatfield is NRA certified to teach Home Firearm Safety, Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Muzzleloading rifle, Muzzleloading pistol, Muzzleloading shotgun, Metallic cartridge reloading, Shotshell reloading, Personal protection in the home and Personal protection outside the home. He is a Chief Range Safety Officer and an NRA Training Counselor. He has attained the Distinguished Expert Marksmanship rating in Pistol, Defensive Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun, and is an experienced competition shooter. He has enthusiastically shared his passion for teaching at the Women’s Wilderness Escape for the last five years. In addition to firearms, Joel teaches Archery and Tomahawk throwing. Kelley Moore is a Courage and Performance Coach. Jack Canfield (one of the creators of Chicken Soup for the Soul) deemed her “America’s Courage Coach.” She is also a United States Marine Corps veteran, who served during the Gulf War. Kelley is the official AG & AG Life Coach, who frequently attends events to arm shooters with the intel needed to recognize, understand and appreciate human behaviors, communication styles, and emotions, and to equip participants with Courageous Communication(c) strategies and tactics. She builds individual confidence as well as strengthens our AG & AG Sacred Sisterhood.[/three_fourth_last]
Groups for each session topic will be assigned based on number of attendees. Detailed information on this aspect of the event will be available soon.
This event is open to all skill levels. Beginner shooters are welcome!

About the NRA Whittington Center
The NRA Whittington Center is a rapidly growing destination recreation site for world-class shooting facilities as well as a variety of recreational activities. Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, it’s natural beauty and wealth of history make the Whittington Center an exciting location to hosts A Girl & A Gun Getaways! The Whittington Center encompasses 33,300 acres ranging from 6,300 to 8,100 feet in elevation. Breath-taking views, outstanding climate, hospitality and an array of activities to enjoy during our weekend such wildlife viewing, star gazing, and of course SHOOTING, SHOOTING, & MORE SHOOTING!
*Ammunition and loaner guns included in the all-inclusive pricing will be limited to within in the budget set for the event. If you want to bring additional ammo or buy more on site, it will be available. Round counts for each activity will be provided closer to the event. Limited to 40 participants. Must be an active member of AG & AG. Minimum of 12 to hold the event.
We understand that life happens and sometimes you have to cancel after purchase. Unfortunately there are costs at HQ for processing registrations and deposits, so we have to cover those costs. Therefore, here is our refund structure: Before July 1st: 85% refund ($425) July 2nd – Aug 31st: 50% refund ($250) After Sept 1st: No refund given ($0).
