About the Red Dot Retreat

The Red Dot Retreat is an exclusive Girls Getaway for AG & AG leaders who want to become more knowledgeable, proficient, and confident with pistol-mounted optics. This three-day event combines classroom education and live-fire training to explore the fundamentals of successful red dot shooting and their application to defense, competition, and instruction. Participants will rotate through sessions with each instructor, gaining the benefit of different teaching styles, experiences, and perspectives.

Whether you attended the original Red Dot Retreat or are experiencing this training for the first time, the curriculum is designed to strengthen your foundation and deepen your understanding. Returning participants can revisit essential concepts through new instructors, drills, coaching, and applications, while first-time attendees receive a comprehensive introduction to the skills that make pistol-mounted optics effective.

This event is exclusively for A Girl & A Gun Chapter Facilitators and A-Team members who want to enhance their skills and confidently teach others about pistol-mounted optics. It is an instructor-level course designed for leaders who already possess safe and competent pistol-handling skills.

It is a women’s event open to individuals whose sex was assigned female at birth. Participants must be able to legally possess and safely handle a firearm, subject to age requirements and the policies of the organization and venue, and must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

This Girls Getaway includes, per person:

• All Range Fees and Equipment
• All Classroom and Live-Fire Instruction
• Catered Lunches on Training Days

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to/from the event, ammo, and lodging.

Absolutely! The fundamentals of successful red dot shooting remain the foundation of the Retreat, but mastery comes from revisiting those fundamentals with greater knowledge, experience, and context. Returning participants will encounter different instructor perspectives, drills, coaching, and applications that allow them to refine their skills and recognize details they may not have been ready to see the first time.

With instructors bringing extensive defensive and competitive experience, the program also explores how strong fundamentals carry across applications and how different shooting problems can deepen your understanding of the same core skills. Returning participants can reinforce what they know while continuing to discover just how much information the dot can provide.

Our instructor team brings an exceptional depth of experience in pistol-mounted optics, defensive shooting, competition, and firearms instruction. Throughout the Retreat, each instructor will bring a different perspective to the fundamentals that drive successful red dot performance, giving participants the benefit of varied approaches and individualized coaching.

That diversity of experience is an important part of the Retreat. A technique used to solve a competitive shooting problem may reveal something new about visual processing or recoil management, while a defensive application may change how a shooter thinks about efficiency, accountability, and performance under pressure. Together, these perspectives create a more complete understanding of pistol-mounted optics and help participants develop skills they can apply to their own shooting and instruction.

The Red Dot Retreat goes beyond learning how to find the dot. Participants will explore vision and target focus, presentation and dot acquisition, grip and recoil management, draw efficiency, dot tracking, visual confirmation, transitions, accuracy at varying distances, and the application of pistol-mounted optics across different shooting challenges.

Throughout the weekend, the dot becomes more than an aiming reference. It becomes a source of immediate feedback about what is happening before, during, and after the shot. Participants will learn to interpret that information, diagnose inefficiencies, and make adjustments that improve performance.

The Red Dot Retreat provides the in-person training component of the certification pathway to teach the A Girl & A Gun Red Dot Essentials course. Candidates must also meet the requirements to become an A Girl & A Gun Certified Trainer.

During the Retreat, participants will work through the Red Dot Essentials course materials with Tatiana. After returning home, candidates will complete a brief virtual teach-back session, typically lasting about 15 minutes, to finalize the certification process for the A Girl & A Gun Red Dot Essentials Instructor credential.

You’ll need to bring eye/hearing protection, weather-appropriate clothing, your pistol with a mounted and zeroed optic, 3+ magazines, a rigid belt with magazine pouches, a holster that meets the key features of a high-quality pistol holster, and 400+ rounds of ammo. You can ship ammo in advance to HQ.

You will train at Texas Shooting Academy, located near Florence, TX, with classroom sessions hosted at the Hyatt Place Austin/Cedar Park.

Make the Hyatt Place Austin/Cedar Park your home for the Red Dot Retreat! Our host hotel gives you a comfortable place to learn, relax, and recharge while keeping you connected with fellow AG & AG leaders throughout the weekend.

Start the morning with breakfast before heading to the range, then return to the hotel for classroom sessions in comfortable, air-conditioned meeting rooms away from the Texas summer sun.

When training is done for the day, you can settle into a spacious room, cool off in the outdoor pool, or find a comfortable spot to unwind with your AG & AG friends. The hotel also offers The Placery for a convenient meal or drink and a 24-hour market for snacks and grab-and-go options.

Best of all, staying at the host hotel means the Retreat doesn’t end when training does. Compare notes from the day, talk through what you learned, catch up with old friends, and make new ones while surrounded by Chapter Facilitators and A-Team members from across the country.

Reserve your room before Mon, 06/03/27, to be eligible for the discounted rate.
