May 2021 Recap

May 2021 Recap

May 2021 focused on training, competitive shooting sports, and Second Amendment advocacy. We welcomed more members and launched some new initiatives! Here are some of the highlights:

We wrapped up our National Conference on May 2nd — a record attendance! Then we compiled the numbers of what guns and gear 450 women brought to training! All 450 participants were required to go through a “gear check” process where their handguns, belts, holsters, and mag pouches were all reviewed and function checked. We listed the most popular brands and models that the women brought to Conference. Read more >

Crushing Stages at He-Man Nationals

A Girl & A Gun had an entire squad of ladies tackle the He-Man 3-Gun Nationals on May 8-9, 2021, in Raton, NM. This match was physically challenging over six natural-terrain stages in the mountains. In living out the AG & AG mission of training and welcoming new competitors, pro shooter Cindy Coker led the ladies through clinics prior to the match to make sure they were set up for success.

More Women Falling in Love with Precision Rifle

“I literally could have stayed up there all night to continue training,” said one student. “A fire has been lit and I cannot wait to continue training for precision rifle!” More than 40 women participated in long-range classes during our National Conference using Ruger Precision rifles and Ruger American rifles chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. Ruger, a Diamond Level Conference Sponsor, supplied the loaner rifles for the class. Fall Fest Planning Is Underway!

Match Director Julianna Crowder and Rangemaster John Crowder recently spent four days at the Lucas Oil Cattle Ranch plotting out stage locations and creating courses of fire that are not only fun, but challenging the for the experienced shooter yet welcoming to those who are newer to multigun sports. Competitors will sling rifles and engage targets out to 600 yards, run through wooded paths shooting on the move, and use a few unique props and platforms that are special to the Lucas Oil Ranch that will make this match memorable — and one you don’t want to miss! Fighting for the Second Amendment

AG & AG Executive Director Robyn Sandoval was invited to speak to the mayor, many judges and elected officials, and a packed room of influential women in Ft. Worth, TX, on May 26. Robyn educated the audience on important firearms legislation and educational opportunities for training. She had just spent the previous weekend shooting in the DC Project 3-Gun Team Match to support additional advocacy efforts in the State of Texas and on the federal level.

Book Club Expanding to Virtual Meetings

We started our AG & AG Book Club last summer and it is gaining steam! The AG & AG Book Club gives members the chance to expand their self defense knowledge, and dive deeper into topics about mindset, safety, violence, and strength. It encourages our members to jump into books that they might not otherwise read. To meet the growing demand, in May 2021 we held our first virtual book club meeting that will take place on a monthly basis. Read more >

Giving Back by Wearing Gray in May

May was Brain Cancer Awareness Month and so we proudly wore our gray ribbons. Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every 3 minutes, and 1 in 5 children diagnosed with cancer will die within 5 years. The causes of most childhood cancers are unknown, and yet childhood cancer research is vastly and consistently underfunded. Less than 5% of the federal government’s total funding for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancers each year. For every childhood cancer awareness shirt sold in May, AG & AG donated $5 to the Cooper Trooper Foundation, whose mission is to encourage the families of children fighting cancer and financially investing in a research endowment fund to help find a cure. Thank you for making a difference! Read more >
