Friendly and Certified Firearms Training for Women Since 2011

August 2020 Recap

In August 2020 we spent more time at the range! We hosted our first-ever clays championship and a lot of local events. We welcomed more new members and two new chapters! Here are our highlights for August:

Success! First-Ever Women’s Clays Championship

A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) hosted the first Women’s Clays Championship on August 14-15, 2020, at Powder Creek Shooting Club in Lenexa, Kansas. The event comprised 67 women competitors, who traveled from 18 different states. The High Overall Winner was 14-year-old Olivia Krauss (pictured above) from Olivet, MI. She had the top combined score for flights for sporting clays, trap, and 5-stand.

Survey Results Widely Circulated

In August, A Girl & A Gun published results of a survey of members who identified as new shooters (gun owners for less than one year) to ask specifically what spurred them into seeking firearms training. The survey confirmed that personal protection is the primary reason why women are seeking firearms training, and went further to enumerate the specific reasons, including civil unrest and the fear of bans after upcoming elections. Many women never considered formal firearms training as an option before learning about opportunities with A Girl & A Gun. Several news outlets covered the story.

Virtual Events Well Received by Members Nationwide

A Girl & A Gun kicked off its Virtual Girls Night Out series in August and hosted two Girls Nights Out with nearly 200 members joining each night. The topics of discussion were out of the Shooting Journal. The first event addressed defensive mindset and important situational awareness protocols. The second event was a virtual dry-fire lesson on target transitions, and reviewing pistol mechanics and fundamentals for leading with the eyes before moving among target arrays.

AG & AG Chapters Rocked #LetsGoShooting Campaign

Dozens of A Girl & A Gun chapters participated in the NSSF’s #LetsGoShooting campaign to celebrate National Shooting Sports Month. Chapter Facilitators led members through the #RangeChallenge Summer Shots course of fire. It was great to see the smiling faces (even if behind masks) all month long!

Lucky 13! More Ladies Become GLOCK Armorers

Another group of A Girl & A Gun members and Chapter Facilitators traveled to Smyrna, GA, for training at the GLOCK Professional facility. Participants took a one-day armorers class followed by two days of live fire on the range with GLOCK instructors. This group of 13 brings the total to 59 certified GLOCK Armorers that have traveled with AG & AG to these all-women courses.
