AG & AG events are fun, social gatherings where you get firearms training and encouragement, ask questions in a safe and nonjudgmental environment, improve your marksmanship, and make new friends. All AG & AG events are supervised by Certified Firearms Instructors. All facilitators are women who can “speak girl” and provide techniques and tips for female shooters. Our goal is to empower, educate, and have fun at the range. AG & AG events have been successful stepping stones for thousands of women. At our events and through articles and information, we provide:
- Basics of gun handling and safety
- Range etiquette
- Proper grip techniques
- Stance for accurate shooting
- Trigger control and follow through
- Sight picture and sight alignment
Dry Fire Safety
Dry-fire practice is one of the best ways to develop your shooting skills at home on your own time and without the cost of range fees or ammunition. Competitive shooters, training professionals, and individual gun owners utilize dry-fire to hone specific techniques, which they then validate with live-fire drills at the range. The dry-fire exercises in the A Girl & A Gun Shooting Journal are tailored to each color track and designed to be in-home training tools to help with proficient manipulating your firearm, developing safe handling skills, honing marksmanship, and an ammo-free rehearsal to boost confidence for the next shooting event! Here are some tips and safety considerations to ensure you get the most out of your next dry fire practice session. Set Up and Safety We take dry-fire safety at home just as seriously as we do live-fire shooting at the range. To ensure your dry-fire practice translates smoothly into range shooting performance set yourself up for success by practicing safety as it relates to your space your gear, your mindset and your home habits. Preparing Your Space Identify a safe direction. Choose a surface that would minimize potential injuries or property damage if a negligent discharge should […]
Safely Passing the Gun
Becoming ambidextrous is a worthy goal for any serious pistol shooter. Very few people are naturally ambidextrous, meaning they can use both hands equally well. The rest of us are inclined towards a strong preference for our right or left hands to perform fine motor skills such as writing or working the trigger. Your non-dominant other half isn’t necessarily less capable than your dominant half, barring any physical injuries or conditions. Your non-dominant side may be less developed, physically weaker, or shakier, and sometimes far less coordinated than its “better half” simply because it is less experienced. Having the confidence to handle safely and shoot the firearm with either hand can be a personal marksmanship and overall safety goal. Some competitions and many drills require “off-hand” activities. While taking the actual shot is a skill to master, so is the act of passing the gun from one hand to the other. If executed poorly, the hand-to-hand transfer can cause serious safety violations. Done correctly, safely, and efficiently the “pass” is both safe and can shave a lot of time off of scores. There are numerous methods for the pass. The following technique implements mindful muzzle direction and trigger finger placement […]
October 2022 Recap
In October, A Girl & A Gun crisscrossed the country for training and matches, bringing new opportunities for women to learn and compete. As always, we were movers and shakers in the firearms industry! Here are our highlights for October 2022.
Lead Management Made Easy!
Gun safety is undoubtedly the primary focus of all shooting activities, both on and off the range. However, one element of gun safety that can be easily overlooked is lead exposure and proper lead management. If ignored, prolonged exposure to lead from shooting, handling ammo and equipment, or training in poorly ventilated environments can lead to serious health consequences. A Girl & A Gun is committed to ensuring our members are well-educated on the best practices for staying healthy and safe. Understanding the “why” behind recommended lead management practices is not only essential but highly motivating. Lead can be absorbed into the body in three ways: inhalation, ingestion, and absorption through the skin. Symptoms of lead poisoning include, but are not limited to, abdominal pain, headaches or joint pain, trouble concentrating or thinking, fatigue, loss of appetite, muscle weakness, personality changes, and a metalic taste in the mouth. For expectant mothers, lead has been proven to cross the placental barrier and negatively impact developing fetuses and has been shown to increase the chances of osteoporosis in older women. Need more certainty about your lead levels? Many shooting sports businesses have their range employees’ lead levels routinely tested to ensure they […]
Virtual Learning for AG & AG Members
Virtual GNOs were such a success that after the world reopened, the GNOs have continued. Two GNOs are scheduled each month. The first focuses on the AG & AG monthly value from the Shooting Journal and is presented by a Chapter Facilitator. The second is usually presented by Tatiana Whitlock (AG & AG’s Director of Training) and focuses on that month’s pistol skill.
Top 10 Handguns for Women in 2022
The most accurate way to determine the best handguns for women is to observe what women are bringing to the range. At the A Girl & A Gun National Conference CELEBRATE 2022, attendees brought 739 handguns to use for training classes ranging from concealed carry to competition. These numbers represent the best handguns preferred and used by women.
From Our Members
Great group of women. Support and comradery at every turn. Ladies are there to help and explain any questions and insecurities. As a new shooter I have met new friends and gained confidence since joining the group. Monthly meetings and training at neighbor ranges give plenty of practice and email tips and advice are great and very informative.
This is a great organization! I joined last year and in addition to learning more about shooting, I’ve made some really great friends. This organization helps you learn, compete and stay abreast of gun laws in your own state. There are great training seminars and opportunities each month to enhance personal skills. The camaraderie in this organization is exceptional and their sponsors are the best place to shop for your shooting gear. Thank you, AG & AG, for all the great experiences I’ve had.
Being a first timer, I was so impressed with the organizational skill of the coordinators for this conference – everything – and I mean everything for me went off without a hitch – it was all so purrfect in every way. I learned so much, I enjoyed myself, I got to meet new women who shoot, and shoot for a purpose… it was just FANTASTIC!
Best organization there is for ladies in the country to learn about firearms for self defense and the shooting sports!
I can’t think of one BEST part of conference… this was one of the highlights of my life! Everything in all was outstanding! I was so amazed at the sisterhood and instant friendships. There was not one rude person in this group.
I loved meeting you absolutely amazing gals, and the phenomenal instructors. Omg & AERIAL GUNNERY!!! Just everything was really great – but you gals and the instructors were the icing on the cake.
The sisterhood…the compassion and understanding of everyone. The instruction is outstanding. This is an amazing event at an amazing price. Thank you!!
It was extremely gratifying to see a tremendous amount of support for the badge that I’m very proud to put on every day to protect and serve my community. Every day, in every city and town across the country, police officers are performing vital services that help make their communities safer. Being afforded stellar training like this aids us in carrying out our mission with honor and integrity.
This was my first AG & AG Conference, so I didn’t know what to expect. My local chapter had dissolved several months before conference, but I had such a great experience. Such a welcoming group, top notch instructors. Already looking forward to next year!
THANK YOU is not enough for the staff that puts this all together! My love and respect for AG & AG is so strong. Events like this are so needed for us to continue to learn and grow in this sport and the quality of instruction that is put together is amazing. Job well done HQ for another year of greatness.
No where will you get the training, exposure and trigger time for the money as you do at this conference. Just an outstanding job!!! Great selection of door prizes!! Can’t recommend this conference enough!! Being in Oklahoma, we have to figure out a way to get more of our gals committed to coming. Thank you both and your team for all you do. I heard so many positive comments about the whole experience. Gear Check!! Checking in!! Liked the meals & shirt included in the price!
OH how can I even put it in words???? EVERYTHING WAS THE BEST! Truly not disappointed in anything. It was amazing, so much education. That old saying, “you don’t know what you don’t know until you know it” applied every step I took. Maybe in a couple of weeks I can come up with a BEST ~~~ I loved the demos, I love the camaraderie and meeting so, so many ladies, and I loved learning. Can we make it longer? LOL
I was blown away at the quality of instruction-maybe not everyone was a perfect instructor but overall it was really good. You just can’t beat that for the price.
I love this group, everyone is so dedicated, so helpful, leadership is so knowledgeable, talented, pleasant and friendly! You’ll never find a more welcoming, friendly, talented group of women! The mere fact that it’s only women adds to the benefits and the bonding experience. I don’t usually give reviews, but this group deserves it!! Definitely TOP rating!
For me, it’s the education, the building of confidence, and the appreciation of the AG&AG organization. I always return home with a greater appreciation of my facilitator and with a deeper pride of being part of the league.
The best part of conference was getting to know so many great people and learning so much information that would most likely take years to learn, all in a 4 day time span at a great location with so many nice people. Thanks Julianna and Robyn for everything you do to give us the best experiences of our lives!
There is nowhere else on Earth where someone could get the caliber of training that I received. My head is still boggled. I don’t know how you guys manage to make conference better and better every year, but God Bless both of you for all your hard work!
I loved the hands on training that focused on what the group needed to work on and accomplish. This is the only training I have attended that asks the student what they want out of their training and tailors the courses to meet those needs. The environment is positive and empowering. It was an amazing experience and the ladies I met were awesome.
“The friendship bonds and camaraderie I made this week will stay with me forever. The incredible generosity of the event sponsors and the gracious efforts by A Girl & A Gun was awe inspiring.”
